International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated annually on February 11, in accordance with the United Nations General Assembly resolution issued on December 22, 2015. The day aims to promote the full and equal participation of women and girls in science and technology and to highlight their contributions to human progress.
The 2026 theme is titled: “Strengthening Synergies between Artificial Intelligence and Social Sciences, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls.” This theme emerges amid widening global inequalities, where integration among these disciplines is viewed as a comprehensive approach capable of accelerating inclusive and sustainable development.
Artificial intelligence provides advanced tools for data analysis, healthcare applications, climate modeling, and more. However, ensuring fair access to these opportunities requires equitable policies and socially informed perspectives. Here, the role of the social sciences becomes essential in shaping legislation and strategies that guarantee the benefits of STEM innovations reach all segments of society, particularly women and girls.
