Vertex International University and the University of the Comoros have signed a strategic partnership agreement that marks a new milestone in the academic relationship between the two institutions. The agreement establishes a collaborative framework designed to expand areas of academic cooperation, promote the exchange of expertise, and enrich learning and scientific research in ways that benefit students, faculty members, and researchers at both universities. The signing ceremony was attended by administrative and academic representatives from both institutions. On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Strategic Partnership and Leadership Shield was presented by the representatives of Vertex International University, Her Excellency Dr. Reem Bashir Ghannam, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees, and His Excellency Dr. Yousef Khairy, Chief Executive Officer, to His Excellency Professor Ibourou Ali Tabibou, President of the University of the Comoros, and His Excellency Professor Al-Amin Mohsen Al-Amin, Deputy Director of University Cooperation at the University of the Comoros. The presentation reflected the mutual appreciation of both institutions for the significance of this partnership and its importance in strengthening academic relations and establishing long-term institutional cooperation through joint academic and research initiatives.

About the University of the Comoros

The University of the Comoros is the principal national institution for higher education in the Union of the Comoros. It was established in 2003 under a presidential decree issued by President Azali Assoumani, with its main campus located in Moroni, the capital city. The university was founded to provide higher education opportunities for a large proportion of secondary school graduates who had previously been required to pursue university studies abroad. Dr. Damir Ben Ali served as the university’s first president. It is currently led by Professor Ibourou Ali Tabibou, who was officially appointed by presidential decree on 30 October 2024 after serving as Acting President since 2020. The university comprises several colleges and institutes offering a broad range of academic programs across the humanities, social sciences, applied sciences, and health sciences. These include the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which offers programs in English Studies, Human Geography, Communication Arts, Chinese Language, Journalism, Business and Commerce, Modern Languages, and History. The university also includes the Imam Al-Shafi’i Faculty of Islamic Studies, the Faculty of Law and Economics with programs in Law, Social Sciences, and Economics, the Institute for Teacher Research, Training and Education dedicated to teacher preparation, the Institute of Technology offering programs in Environmental Science, Statistics, Tourism, Civil Engineering, Marketing, Accounting, Computer Science, Economics, and Business Administration, as well as the School of Medicine and Public Health, which provides academic programs in Nursing and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Together, these academic units reflect the university’s broad educational capacity and its central role in preparing qualified professionals across multiple sectors.
